 The Drunk Meme

Whether you're in a bar, at home, a party, someone else's place, the beach, a park or somewhere else, you're drunk. And so is the person tagging you (or are they?).

  1. Tᴏᴜᴄʜʏ Fᴇᴇʟʏ: Inhibitions are lowered and suddenly, touching whoever is around seems like the best idea.

  2. Pʜɪʟᴏsᴏᴘʜɪᴄᴀʟ: You know the type. Deep (or not so deep) questions that have no answer— what's our purpose in life? Better write down any answers you come up with, because you might not remember in the morning.

  3. Hᴀᴘᴘʏ Dʀᴜɴᴋ: Everything's just so funny right now, okay.

  4. Aɴɢsᴛ: Are you drinking to forget? Gathering the courage to tell someone the terrible news? Either way, tonight's looking pretty dreary.

  5. Mᴇssʏ Dʀᴜɴᴋ: Maybe you shouldn't have had that last shot. Either way, you're not holding your liquor too well.

  6. Dʀᴜɴᴋ Sᴇx: Obligatory smut option.

  7. Hᴜɴɢᴏᴠᴇʀ: bonus round; the morning after.

Pick one or let RNG decide for you.

[john remembers what derek told him his last birthday. how on his 30th he got drunk as a skunk. how derek had nearly taken him out for a beer, but john, as he is now, isn't old enough to drink, so he took him out for an ice cream. he took him to a park, told him a story.

he showed him his dad.

then it had all gone to hell. sarkissian. cameron. all of it. so if he wanted to not be at home with his mom losing her mind over perimeter everything the next birthday, well that's his prerogative. he can't always be her son, he has to be the man he's going to become, whoever that is. so he made a decision, and he didn't mind cameron tagging along at the weird little school party.

there was beer and liquor even though none of them were of age, but cameron didn't seem to mind as long as she could stay close. so later, he wanders over to her from the kitchen, two beers in hand, and offers one to her. his face is a little pink, eyes a little glazed, but he's still perfectly functional if she should want to know.

the party was dying down anyways, and john wasn't quite ready to go home or answer his phone. so once cameron takes the beer, even if she doesn't need it, he takes her hand, and leads her out of the party. they can just wander around for a while, right?

yeah, totally.]

[ Humans are strange.

It's a conclusion she's come to many times by now as she observes their odd customs and rituals, and John is by far the strangest amongst them all. Then again, that isn't really a surprise. He's special. Different. He saves the world.

Cameron isn't a stickler for Sarah's rules, was never a fan of them anyway, and so when John decides he wants to go out, she's just relieved -- as relieved as a Terminator can be -- that she doesn't have to resort to stalking him like prey. He seems open to having her with him, even doesn't seem to mind it when she follows him the whole night, hovering as he drinks and talks and also observes.

She makes an effort when he wanders off a little further away. Makes an effort to talk to the other strange humans, all in various states of inebriation. Why would any being want to indulge in mind-altering substances? She asks that a few times, gets less than optimal answers out of the teens, and makes a mental note to ask John when he comes back to her. What's really on her mind is, why does John want to take mind-altering substances? It's unsafe. It compromises his judgment.

She supposes that's why he's allowed her to be there. To help correct any lapses in judgment he may have.

When John approaches her and offers out the beer, she looks down at it with a slight frown. Does he not remember that food and beverages are of no consequence to her? Of course he does, and so it's probably for appearances, and so she just takes it, even takes a sip and smiles at him, because that's what the girls at this party do, isn't it? Smile and drink, their eyes warm and their cheeks flushed, flushed just like John's are now. She can simulate that, if that's what John wants. She thinks it might be, and so she does, mirroring the increase in body temperature, mirroring the slightly glazed eyes.

He's taken her other hand in his and he's leading her out, away from all the noise and shouting, all the laughing and giggling warm bodies. Good. It's safer out here. She doesn't like it when John's surrounded like that. She has a question she wants to ask him, the one about the mind-altering beverage, but she decides not to lead with it. Instead: ]

Are you having fun, John? It's your birthday. You should be having fun.

[john sometimes thinks that too, but his understanding isn't tainted by coding spanning the whole of his being. at least not the mechanical kind. what he's been groomed for since he could even remotely understand it.

he knows he's stranger compared to most. most kids worry about hanging out with friends. they worry about prom. their grades. full rides to MIT or whatever the hell. they don't keep a loaded handgun under their pillow. they don't know every back up place they will go to in successive order if any of them are compromised. they don't know how to rip a chip out of a cybernetic killing machine's head. he's certainly not "most kids".

but tonight---tonight he's making a hell of an effort at it.

he knows cameron doesn't care for his mother's rules. knows she thinks that he has to become "her john" and not his mother's son. he likes spending time with her, it's one of the few times he can just be who he is without---having to be anything else.

she isn't there to correct any lapses in his judgement. technically, this could be a huge one, but he just wants to be as close to himself as he can be for a little while. and only cameron and derek honestly afford him that opportunity. he remembers that food and such won't do anything for her, but she needs to blend in. and, like she told him once as she stole a fry, she's different than the others.

he curiously tilts his head a bit as her cheeks flush, and he can tell she's simulating the effects of both drink and party. he doesn't mind it. it's freeing. he keeps walking, his hand curled around hers, and takes another sip of his beer.]

More fun that the last one, anyways. Managed to get a beer this time at least.

[ She allows him to lead her, only half a step behind. They're far enough away from the party that her hand in his processes as unnecessary, but she doesn't pull away, her fingers deceptively soft and light as they grasp at his. Everything about this is unnecessary, but sometimes unnecessary is completely necessary. Humans.

John mentions the beer, and that's as good an opening as any. Cameron has gotten better at carrying out conversations in a smooth manner. Brute forcing them doesn't seem to always go well with humans, who appear to require priming and guidance to some topics. ]

You really wanted one. [ It's an observation more than a question or anything else. She continues. ] Why? Beer is a mind-altering substance and a toxin, John. We studied it. They told us. DARE.

[he likes this. it almost feels real. guess as real as he's ever going to get, really. john can feel how light her hand in his is, and knows that she could crush his if she wanted. doesn't matter, he still likes this.

he snorts softly at her observation, and shrugs a little.]
Yeah, well, I think I deserve one. Technically speaking I should be old enough to drink in this time.

[john let's out a small sigh.] I know they told us, but it's not bad with just a little bit every once in a while. One isn't going to kill me.

[ She's very pointed in that way of hers when she utters: ] You've had more than one.

[ She doesn't scold, though. It's not her place to scold. That's Sarah's.

Her eyes fall to the drink in her other hand. She could drink it, but it sounds like he wants it -- needs it? -- more than she does (not at all), so she doesn't take a sip. Just continues holding. ]

You can have mine, then, too, John. Because you deserve it. More than one.
